Additional Information

Attendance -
Lesson times are standing appointments: a student’s lesson time is reserved for only them each week, and it is their responsibility to attend. Dance classes and sports teams do not offer reimbursements if you cannot attend a rehearsal or game - music lessons are no different. Because specific times are set aside for specific students, a student who does not attend a lesson will simply miss the benefit of that lesson. I will then use that time or other times to plan for the student’s progress, locate materials, etc. Please be assured that tuition pays for far more than the time spent during lessons.

  • Please provide at least 48 hours notice if you know that you will not be able to make it.

  • If students are sick they should not attend lessons.

  • Look at your schedule in advance and keep open communication. I am much more likely to be able to help with rescheduling if you give me plenty of advance notice of any absences.

  • Makeup lessons are always available if scheduling allows.

Practice -

All students are expected to practice at least four days a week for 30 minutes each day. They will need to fill out a practice sheet each week so that I can see when they practiced and for how long. Parents should circle any days that they observed their child (at least one day a week, preferably soon after the lesson, is required for any students younger than high school age) and sign the practice chart (required for students younger than high school age).

Recitals -

Students are required to participate in recitals. There will be three studio recitals held per year. Specific dates will be sent out well in advance. Other performance opportunities are available during the year and are optional.

Method -

The following books are what I usually use to teach from:

  • Faber Piano Adventures - Lesson Books

  • Celebration Series

  • Theory Gymnastics

  • Scale Charts

  • Flash Cards

Supplemental music will be added if needed/desired. If the method is not working then I will switch to another one after 6 months, giving advance notice to parents. If a student is transferring then I will continue to use their current method.

Breaks -

I will let you know in advance if there are any weeks or days that I will be gone. Again, I will provide makeup lessons for all students whenever they miss a lesson (if given notice in advance) or if I am out of the studio.

Lesson Durations & Expectations -

Lessons are 30 minutes, once a week. I will come to your home to teach, an adult will need to be at the home at the time of the students lesson. The possibility of 45 of 60-minute lessons are available depending on age, level, and other needs.

Students are expected to come to lessons prepared with all needed materials and having practiced.

Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons if desired. In some cases having a parent there is detrimental to students; if I feel like this is the case I will let you know.

Cancellations -

I require at least 30 days notice before canceling. This way I can end things on a positive note. If less than 30 days notice is given there will be no refund of tuition.
